I’m going to tell you a story about a couple who wanted more. They were an ordinary couple, at least they thought that they were ordinary, and this is also how others treated them…Ordinary.
Some days, they dreamt of a better life, a different and exciting life. But they would look at each other and their surrounding world and without notice slowly let go of that possibility. They just let it slip into a world I will call the “World of Never”.
The World of Never is not seen by anyone or anything, yet it is all around us waiting to feast upon lost and hopeless dreams. We all have dreams that we conceive, but they vanish into the World of Never before given the chance to materialize.
This couple went along with their daily tasks. They would sometimes visit the Dream Land, and when their disbelief in themselves became too great, they would allow their dreams again to be swallowed up by the World of Never.
This probably sounds all too familiar to you? I will tell you with absolute confidence that there is a simple reason why you are not experiencing your full potential. Why you spend more time in your Dream Land.
Your potential is so powerful that it scares you. You are not unsuccessful because you think you can’t. You are unsuccessful because you think you can and it scares the hell out of you.
Many people feel that they are failures when they do not reach their goals. There are many road blocks in life that come up and delay or alter your goals. Failure is a mindset, it is a perception, and it depends on which direction you are facing.
If you are starting at Point A and walking towards Point B and you are half way there, are you walking towards B or are you walking away from A? It would depend upon your perception and your view.
If you turn around and walk backwards towards B, then B is no longer in view. So your perception or view might be that you are just walking away from A, and not walking towards B.
If you were observing someone else doing this, then in your perception you could choose from three points of view, and you would be correct in choosing any of them;
1)Is the person walking towards B?
2)Away from A?
3)Or walking away from A and towards B at the exact same time no matter what direction he or she is facing?
There is no wrong or right answer. It is your perception and it depends on which part you want to focus on. Like failure or success, it’s the same scenario. What are you focusing on? What is your view point, success or failure? All of us are successful and unsuccessful at the same exact time. It depends on which side we are standing.
We could look at a person with a lot of money and say that they are successful at becoming rich. We could look at another without much money and say that they are successful at being poor.
The Rich person is not only successful at being Rich, but they are just as unsuccessful at being Poor. The Poor person is successful at being Poor and is just as unsuccessful at being Rich, Right? If you have failed at losing weight, you are just as successful at gaining weight.
All of us have been students and most of us knew the kid in school that was the “loser” or the “failure” who would always get 50’s and 60’s on tests. Was he actually a loser, or was he very successful at achieving 50’s and 60’s?
If you were constantly being told that you were a failure or a loser, would the idea of success ever pop into your mind? What if that same student was told that he was a success? Told that he was successful at obtaining 50’s and 60’s, but if he changed his study habits he could be just as successful at obtaining, 70’, 80’s and 90’s?
This student when being told that he is a loser and failure only sees Point B. If told that he is a success he can then change directions, seeing Point A. But, he has to give up his perception of being a failure, in order to achieve his new perception of being a success.
Have you ever started something new, just to have it all go down the toilet? Things were not going well, regardless of what you did? Where did you think you were going to put the new once it came in, if you didn’t have room for it? Out with the Old and in with New!
If you want something, truly want it, what are you willing to give up? You want a new job, but are you willing to give up the comfort of knowing the job you now have to learn something new? Willing to give up your free time partying with your friends to get a better education that is needed for a new job?
The saying, “You can’t get something for nothing”, is true. Also the saying, “You must give to receive”. You just have to decide which direction you want to go. Make a choice on what you are willing to give up, in order to get.
